Congolese 'Katana'

Congolese 'Katana'
Congolese 'Katana' is a naturally-processed coffee with a creamy and heavy body. This coffee has flavors of malt balls, cherry cola, strawberry, and hibiscus, with an aroma of bubble gum and butterscotch. This is a unique offering that we are excited to have on our lineup!
Congolese 'Katana' is from the Katana Station in the Kabare Territory, located just inland from the southwestern banks of Lake Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The area benefits from abundant rainfall, ideal altitude, volcanic soils, and its proximity to the equator, all contributing factors to fantastic growing conditions for coffee in the DRC, where robusta coffee has grown freely in the wild for hundreds of years. Since the late 1800s, people have started to cultivate arabica coffee in the DRC, but political and economic unrest have made it difficult for Congolese coffee to be farmed and exported. In 2012, the DRC government launched a program to revive the production and export of coffee, leading to specialty coffee being grown and a push for quality as it’s being processed. We are looking forward to seeing more incredible coffee from the DRC in the future.
